You may see many different opinions in the metaphysical community regarding what spirit entities are, what they are capable of, what WE (as humans) are capable of, and, in general, how things 'work'.
Probably the most important thing you should keep in mind is that all of the folks who use these systems work for the people who are using them. (Otherwise, why would they be using them?) It's true that they have many points on which they contradict one another. This demonstrates two things--first, that there's more than one way to do just about anything, and second, that every system has flaws, and we're probably all wrong about something, just as we may be right about some things. The truth is probably vastly more complicated than we can currently conceive of.
With that in mind, I felt it may be time to pen a few basic premises that Eclipse Metaphysical operates under.
1) Nothing is indestructible (except for energy). This is a basic law of physics. Entropy is a law. Nothing, and I do mean nothing, lasts forever. Forever is an inconceivably vast amount of time, and even things that have existed for all time up to the present cannot be said to be eternal, as they may, one day, end. Now, we know that ENERGY cannot be destroyed--it can only be transformed. However, that transformation is a type of destruction--it is no longer what it once was. The pattern it once held is gone. Like a living thing that dies, its form is changed, and thus its name and being have changed. (A corpse breaks down into the sum of the components it made up--the life form it once was is destroyed). Spirits are no different. If their pattern is destroyed, then they are no more. The energy they were made of still exists, but they do not.
2) While humans are often rather oblivious to the metaphysical, within each of them dwells a soul. In some cases, this soul is quite old, and quite experienced. It takes a lot of power to run a living body, so human souls are extremely powerful spirit entities. Many of them have a great deal of knowledge and skill, even if the living person they're 'running' is unaware of it. In most cases, this potential goes untapped during a lifetime, but it would be a mistake to forget that it is there. We're capable of learning to become far more powerful than the majority of spirits we may encounter, and there are many mages and psions who are far stronger than most spirit entities.
3) I'm not sure about this notion of entities being alive on some other plane. They are made of energy, not matter. All spirits are patterned energy forms. They may act like living things, but, being not actually made of matter, they're not. So, we don't make a division between spirits and entities, because we don't perceive that this is a real division. We could be wrong, but if so, I don't see that it actually matters, in terms of what we do.
4) Yes, servitors are a type of spirit entity. Like all spirit entities, they are comprised of energy, and have a stable, circulating pattern. They have a 'mind', they can move, and affect energy around them. They consume energy. Just as all spirits do.
5) Spirits don't all have our best interests at heart, they're not bound by any celestial rule that says they can't do things to us without our permission, and most of them are capable of making the same choices we make. As a result, there's no such thing as a 'good' TYPE of spirit, or an 'evil' TYPE. There are good individuals, and bad individuals. Some types are more prone to being friendly or helpful than others, but it must always be remembered that, just like us, they are individuals. The amount of trust you extend to any entity should have a basis in this fact. Check out the boundaries of the binding, if you have a bound spirit.
6) Spirits can be aided, healed, fed, harmed, bound voluntarily or involuntarily, enslaved, altered, or even destroyed. This is true of all of us, as well. The magickal law of 'As Above, So Below" has an obvious meaning that few contemplate--the reverse is also, by logic, just as true. Just as they can do things to us without our consent, the reverse is true. It's impolite, but entirely possible.
7) We are gray practitioners. Our mages are capable of pure white magicks, and black magicks. We create servitors that operate only on light principles, and others that operate on dark principles. Most of what we do falls somewhere in the middle. Life is in full color, it's not in black and white. Shades of gray seem inadequate to describe it. We prefer rainbows over stark divisions. We're happy to accomodate your beliefs and preferences, but will not adopt your moral codes for ourselves.
8) We're happy to answer questions you may have, but we are human...if an answer seems lengthy and detailed one day, and short the next, it may be that we weren't feeling well one day, or were busy with other things, or perhaps were just in a different mood. We do our best to have patience with everyone, and hope folks will extend us the same courtesy.
9) If you see something we offer, or describe, that contradicts something that another seller, or keeper, or practioner has said...obviously, we disagree with them. Who is right? That is something that you, as a person who is seeking out learning in this field, will have to determine for yourself.
10) Much of what we do with spirits is based on perception and communication with them. We do not tend to rely on texts, on what others have said or taught, or tradition, when it comes to dealing with spirits. We prefer to take them as we 'see' them. They aren't always what people assume them to be, after all. We're not newbies at this (and when we say that, we're talking about decades of experience, not just a few years), and what we pick up is more legitimate than most texts.
11) If you would like to see more of the types of systems Winged Wolf was trained in, you can find materials and information at http://www.psionguild.org. The book, Beginning Psionics, is a training manual for a system of psionics, written by Winged Wolf.
Guardians are created spirits, formed and patterned from psychic and magickal energies.
Entities of this type are called servitors, constructs, or energy golems.
Just like summoned spirits, this entity is intelligent, and has a personality and the ability to learn and grow.
They are created to remain completely loyal to its owner, and to love and serve them.
If the item is passed to a new owner, the servitor will serve and guard its new owner just as faithfully as it did the first.
